Point of Decision (October 2004)
Throughout the course of our lives we will face many important
crossroads. Sometimes the road we face may look paved, smooth and easy to
discern. Yet, sometimes the path of life is rocky and steep. A point of
decision is continually in front of us.
Whether we are struggling within our marriage, having to seek a new
career midway through life, dealing with financial hardships, experiencing
health problems or seeking to find our next parish home, there is one single
decision we must make, which will affect the way we deal with all of them.
It is a decision of faith.
There are endless stories throughout the bible where people in both the
New and the Old Testament had to make an important decision to follow God
and walk by faith.
When Saint John the Baptist preached of the coming of Christ in the
wilderness, a moment of reckoning came to all who heard him. His teaching
brought everyone to an important crossroad, to a pointmake a decision to fully live
a life in Christ. Take time to reflect on your baptism, your entrance into
the faith, and most importantly, your union with Christ. May we wake up each
day, making a conscious effort to plant our feet upon the floor and accept
with fullness of heart the coming day with God's peace. May we intentionally
participate in the sacraments of Holy Eucharist and Holy Confession meeting
our loving Lord through the Holy Mysteries gifted to us by the Lord Himself.
Make it a point to seek peace, forgiveness, and love with all who surround
us.
This month, we are facing an important crossroads with discussions and
decisions about purchasing a church property in the near future. I ask that
you pray for guidance and consider how each of us are called to give of our
time and treasures to our beloved church. The decisions we make today will
indeed impact our future. May we continually walk in faith, as we grow "like
the Holy Apostles to know, love, and serve Jesus Christ our Lord."
