Thoughts for Today

PHILOPTOCHOS

"I ask you, my friends, do not disdain any means by which you may please God. These are numerous. For example, being kindly affectionate towards others, consoling the sorrowful, interceding for someone who has been unjustly treated, giving alms to the needy, turning one's gaze away from what is unclean, withstanding unclean thoughts; forcing oneself to pray, patience, merciful kindness, fairness, and the like. In the performance of these virtues you will draw to yourself God's all-powerful aid, and with this you will overcome all difficulties which before seemed insurmountable."

PHILOPTCHOS NEWS:

It is encouraging to have the energy of so many ladies at Holy Apostles working together in fellowship and fun while being committed to Philoptochos in our philanthropic efforts.

Currently we are working to provide Kenmore Shelter families with Christmas Gifts and Food Baskets. Thanks so everyone at Holy Apostles for your help with this outreach project.

Our recent fundraising efforts are focused on helping to support the Smith family with the adoption fees to bring Maria Jose from Guatemala. Your help is greatly appreciated!

CONTINUING OUR MISSION OF PHILANTHOPY

We feel blessed to have so much support from our community to enable us to meet our philanthropic obligations to the community and Philoptochos. Thank you to all you who have been so generous in supporting our fundraising efforts by purchasing wreaths, and attending our monthly pancake breakfasts.  This year through your help we were able to meet many of our commitments by donating and/or providing services to: the Katrina Fund, the Tsunami fund, mailing packages to soldiers in Iraq, donating to missionaries Ed Pier and Georgia Leckie, supporting the Butterfly Shop, Kenmore Shelter, Sheppard Counseling, Camp Agape Northwest, Children's Cardiac Program, Cancer Fund, Retired Clergy Benevolence Fund, Ecumenical Patriarchate Fund, Hellenic College Scholarship, Support a Mission Priest fund, and scholarship funds for seminarians.  Thank you all for your giving spirit and supporting Philoptochos so we are able to participate in our mission to reaching out to those in need.

Please to continue to collect toiletries for the women shelter; see the collection box in the storage room in the church for deposit of items

We are so blessed to have such a supportive parish. Thanks to our community of Holy Apostles, we have had great success with our fundraisers from our pancake breakfasts, wreath sales to our mini baklava sale. As a member in the National Philoptochos we have made many important mission obligations that our fundraising supports.   Your help in contributing towards these effort has helped to make our philanthropic giving a reality.

It is so wonderful to be look at the New Year and knowing that there are so many wonderful people in Philoptochos who are committed to making a difference.

Many thanks to:

Janice Palm  and Georgia Leckie who were so diligent about making sure the Kenmore shelters needs were met during the holidays by arranging for Christmas meals, the Christmas Luncheon and Christmas present drive in partnership with Church of the Redeemer.

Dena Avgeres and Selma Nadir who are our fundraising chairpersons who so energetically arrange the fundraising projects.

Annie Rhees and Diane Plumis who are continually looking for new members for our organization and are keeping the membership up to date.

Antigone Tsircou who organizes the Pennies and Prayers Campaign. Our little Holy Apostles Church is the largest contributor to this mission effort to support mission churches than any of the other churches in the diocese.

Vi Jurgich and Vould Dodd who graciously see that the sick receive notes of encouragement.

Barb Bardin who is so great with managing our finances and books and gives much support in everything needed.

Kay Constantine who keeps records of our meetings and lends direction to our Philoptochos.

Emilie John for being our Philoptochos President, encouraging our parish to continue Philanthropic giving!
