Holy Apostles supports local non-profit ministries, as well as missionaries around the world.
'For I was hungry and you gave me food; I was thirsty and you gave me drink; I was a stranger and you welcomed me; I was naked and you clothed me; I was sick and you visited me; I was in prison and you came to me . . . as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.' Matthew 25:35-36, 40
Holy Apostles is committed to missions and evangelism proclaiming the Gospel and making a difference in the lives of the poor throughout the world. Several of our parishioners have been actively involved with missions through various Christian organizations:
Having just returned from an Orthodox Mission, where I was fortunate to have the opportunity to work with children in Romania, I wanted to take a moment and share the blessing that the OCMC (Orthodox Christian Mission Center) provides to people all over the world.
The OCMC (www.ocmc.org) is a non-profit organization based in St. Augustine, Florida. It's motto, "Let Your Light Shine," drives the values of spreading the word of Christ through its mission statement:
"To help fulfill the Great Commission of Christ (Matthew 28:16); the OCMC srives to establish vibrant Eucharistic communities throughout the world, to develop and support indigenous church leaders, and to strengthen the infrastructure of their churches..... OCMC will recruit, train, send and support Orthodox missionaries to preach, teach, baptize, construct, and minister to the spiritual and physical needs of those being served and saved..."
I had the pleasure of witnessing first-hand the power of social purpose through Christ in a small campground north of Cluj Napoca, a city in Romania. With the combined resources and Orthodox values from 6 other missionaries from all over Canada and the US, we grew in Christ with over 50 children and a dozen camp counselors from all over Romania. My initial thoughts were that I had a lot to offer the children, to tell them of the love of Christ in their own home country, and to help build a strong foundation with their faith, despite the hardships that they have endured. By the end of the mission, I realized that it was the children themselves and their experiences, that taught me.
I am forever grateful to the OCMC for the service they provide to Orthodox Christians - and encourage anybody who hears the calling of Christ in this manner to contact the OCMC and sign up for a mission! It's something that I will remember for the rest of my life and continue to do.

O Heavenly King, Comforter, who grants all blessings, we thank You for Your abundant grace and mercies.
Help us to be good stewards of Your treasury through serving others.
Help us to strip ourselves of our earthly adornment, so that the poor may be sufficiently clothed and fed.
And, by so loving our neighbor, adorn us with the everlasting pearls of virtue instead.
Where there is suffering, help us to bring Your mercy.
Where there is despair, Your hope;
Where there is war, allow us to present You who are the Prince of Peace;
Where there is pain, You who are the Comforter; Where there is hatred, You who are Love;
Where there is death and destruction; You who are the Resurrection and Life.
Daily guide our work, so that we may do all things, in every place and at all times, for Your glory. Amen.
