Flowers & Sanctuary Beautification
Our sanctuary is beautified through flowers that honor the beauty of God's creation, helping create an atmosphere of reverence and beauty for worship. As Scripture reminds us, "Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these" (Luke 12:27).
Ministry members create memorial and icon floral arrangements that are offered back to God to adorn the altar and icons, remembering our loved ones who have fallen asleep. Flowers remind us of Eden and heaven, helping to root the church and remind us where we are and what is occurring during the liturgy. Special attention is given to major celebrations, with elaborate decorations for the Epitaphios on Good Friday and joyous flowers for Pascha morning.
Volunteers arrange flowers at the base of icons of Christ and the Mother of God, use flowers to adorn the Epitaphio during Holy Week, and provide memorial flowers for those who have died. The ministry coordinates special decorations for feast days like Pascha and Christmas, maintains plants and seasonal displays, and ensures the sanctuary is properly appointed for services. They work with the church calendar to provide appropriate colors and themes, arrange for memorial flowers when requested by families, and coordinate with clergy on liturgical requirements.
