The Orthodox Church commemorates St. Andrew the First-Called Apostle. This feast celebrates the life and ministry of St. Andrew, who was a follower of St. John the Baptist before becoming the first disciple called by Christ. St. Andrew eagerly brought others to Jesus, including his brother St. Peter. His missionary zeal led him to preach the Gospel throughout the Black Sea region and Greece, where he was ultimately martyred on an X-shaped cross.
Apolytikion of St. Andrew the First-Called Apostle
As first of the Apostles to be called, O Andrew, brother of him (Peter) who was foremost, beseech the Master of all to grant the world peace and our souls great mercy.
