Today the Orthodox Church commemorates St. John Chrysostom, Archbishop of Constantinople. Known as the 'Golden-mouthed' for his incomparable and eloquent preaching, St. John is celebrated as one of the Three Holy Hierarchs along with Saint Basil the Great and Saint Gregory the Theologian. He authored the version of the Divine Liturgy most commonly celebrated in Orthodox churches. His fearless preaching of the Gospel, even to the imperial court, led to his exile, where he reposed in 407.
Apolytikion of John Chrysostom, Archbishop Of Constantinople
The grace of your words illuminated the universe like a shining beacon. It amassed treasures of munificence in the world. It demonstrated the greatness of humility, teaching us by your own words; therefore, O Father John Chrysostom, intercede to Christ the Logos for the salvation of our souls.
