Mika Thompson
Member at Large
Mika Thompson has been a faithful member of Holy Apostles for eight years, drawn to Orthodoxy because it is ancient, beautiful, sacramental, and invites participation in liturgical life both during services and in daily living. She and her husband Justin initially came to Holy Apostles because of its proximity to their home, but they stayed because of the welcoming and loving nature of Father Tom, Presbytera Pat, and the entire parish community. They are blessed with two young sons, Peter and Vincent, who are growing up within the Holy Apostles family. Her patron saint is Theodora, wife of Justinian.
Professionally, Mika works for the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network, where she tests the ShakeAlert earthquake early warning system and manages a project building an observatory off the coast of Oregon for scientists studying the Cascadia subduction zone. Her scientific background reflects her adventurous spirit—during college, she spent a month camping and collecting rock samples for research in Antarctica.
Mika has served Holy Apostles in various capacities, including a year and a half as the church's administrative assistant, singing in the choir for several years, and regularly helping with coffee hour. Her favorite Orthodox service is the Resurrection Service on Holy Saturday, and she treasures the parish community for being filled with interesting, loving, sincere, and wonderful people.
What excites Mika most about Holy Apostles' future is the opportunity to facilitate connections and support among parents with younger children, recognizing the importance of building community among families navigating similar life stages. Her blend of scientific expertise, administrative experience, and heart for fostering meaningful relationships makes her an essential voice in parish leadership.
