Straton Spyropoulos

Secretary

Straton is a cradle Orthodox Christian who has been a member of Holy Apostles for four years, though his connection to the parish runs much deeper. He has known Father Tom and Presbytera Pat since 1989, long before they became "Father" and "Presbytera," and has been drawn to Holy Apostles since its early days as a mission church in Kenmore and through its move to Shoreline. Named after his paternal grandfather Eustratios, who served as a priest in both Greece and the United States, Straton carries forward a rich family tradition of Orthodox faith and service.

Straton's deep love for Orthodox liturgical music has been a defining aspect of his faith journey. He has been chanting since age fourteen and finds particular inspiration in St. Romanos the Melodist, the influential 6th-century Byzantine hymnographer who is said to have been the first to chant a kontakion hymn. Growing up at the Cathedral of Hagia Sophia in Washington, D.C., the Pentecost troparion became one of his favorite hymns as it was their church hymn sung every Sunday. He continues this musical ministry at Holy Apostles, serving joyfully at the chant stand and in the choir.

Currently serving as recording secretary on the parish council, Straton is motivated by hisadesire to help the parish grow in the best way possible. His professional background includes over five years as a high school tutor in math and sciences for Seattle Public Schools, following earlier work as a developer and trainer at software and hardware companies.

He and his fiancée Kristin are blessed to share their lives with his daughter Leone. What excites Straton most about Holy Apostles' future is watching the church grow while preserving the warmth and love of the parish family.
